Apps that make Math Fun

The words math and fun don’t usually go together, but they should.  If you are looking for clever ways to make math fun and help your child gain the skills she needs, all you need is a smartphone or tablet.  Memorizing facts, counting coins and telling time have never been so exciting!

Here are a few of our favorite Math Apps:

Math vs Zombies – $4.99 on iOS
The world is overrun with zombies (who are cute and spooky, not dark and scary).  You are part of a squad of highly trained scientists who save the planet.  Use your math skills and special powers to treat infected zombies.  This addictive app makes it fun to count, compare, add, subtract, multiply and divide.  There is also a nifty report feature so that parents can check their child’s progress and spot areas of weakness.

Mathmateer – FREE & PAID VERSIONS
Build a rocket ship with money you earn by answering equations (choose addition, subtraction, division or multiplication).  Once your ship is ready, accept a mission!  You can choose from the following missions:  numbers, time, us money, shapes/patterns or multiplication/division.  Too easy?  There are three difficulty levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced.  P.S.  Younger children may need a little help from Mom or Dad to get started.  It may take a few tries to get your rocket into outer space.
