Children’s Books with Diversity by Lemon Starfish

Brilliant Books, Starring You

Lemon Starfish books began with Princess Truly and The Hungry Bunny Problem, written by Kelly Greenawalt. Kelly wrote this book for her daughters when she noticed a critical shortage of books featuring smart and capable princesses, especially black princesses with gorgeous natural puffy curls. What started out as a small, independently published project turned into something TRULY magical. Lemon Starfish is now an independent publisher of children’s books, and home to the popular Princess Truly book series. We are committed to publishing engaging books, that are fun to read, and that feature black and biracial children.

Children deserve the opportunity to see themselves in the books they read; to experience the magic of being part of a great story.  We believe that books act as mirrors and windows, a way of learning about ourselves and others. We publish positive and inspiring titles, rich with diversity that all children can enjoy. The princess truly series features a black princess for smart kids.  The Marvin and Malcolm children’s books are about two smart black boys who often find themselves in trouble. We will be introducing many more books featuring black and biracial children in the coming months. Our children’s books are available at many different retailers, on Amazon, and on Barnes and Noble.com
